  • What is BuildVic?

BuildVic is VMIA’s online portal that enables Builders to purchase and manage VMIA DBI via multiple devices.

Please note, to access VMIA DBI and the BuildVic portal, you need to have first nominated a DBI Distributor.

  • How do I nominate a DBI Distributor?

If you are a new Builder seeking to apply for eligibility, you will have nominated the DBI Distributor by completing and submitting the Eligibility application form [PDF, 78KB].

If you are a Builder with current Eligibility, and your existing broker is a DBI Distributor, you would have been automatically assigned to them.

If you are a Builder with current Eligibility and your existing broker is not a DBI Distributor, you will need to nominate a Distributor below by completing a Distributor Nomination Form [PDF, 210KB]. Please contact your chosen DBI Distributor for assistance:

Builders wanting to purchase VMIA DBI using an insurance broker who is not a DBI Distributor, can still do so. However you must still nominate a DBI Distributor for your broker to deal with.

  • I have received a Letter of Eligibility. Does this now cover me for all my projects?

No. The Letter of Eligibility simply sets out the terms of your eligibility with VMIA, that is the number and value of projects you are able to complete and any applicable terms. You need to apply for a separate DBI Certificate of Insurance for each building project you undertake valued at $16,000 or more. Contact your nominated DBI Distributor for more information.

  • How do I access BuildVic?

If you are a Builder with current Eligibility with the VMIA, you should have received an email containing your Login details. If you are unsure which email is associated with your account please contact your DBI Distributor for assistance. If you do not know your password, please use the Forgot you password link within the portal.

If you are a new Builder who has submitted an Eligibility Application form to a DBI Distributor, you will receive an email containing your Login details once your application for eligibility has been processed, accessed and approved.

Please contact your nominated DBI Distributor for status of your application.

  • I have submitted my Eligibility Application form to my nominated DBI Distributor, how do I log on to BuildVic?

You will receive an email containing your Login details once your application for eligibility has been processed, accessed and approved.

  • How do I find out the status of my application

Please contact your nominated DBI Distributor for updates on the status of your application.

  • I have purchased DBI for a building project, what do I need to do now?

By law, you are required to give the homeowner a copy of the Certificate of Insurance and policy wording that applies to the proposed building works.
