COVID-19 Update

Changes to our services for builders and home owners

A message to our clients and stakeholders

Due to the COVID-19 Stage 4 Restrictions we advise that the ability for us to send on-site inspection representatives has been affected and in turn will impact our timelines in managing claims.

Claims received during this time will be temporarily placed on hold, until restrictions are lifted and a VMIA representative is permitted to attend your property.

In the event your issues are an emergency or safety related, please refer to our guide [PDF, 518KB].

Our business remains open with all staff working remotely. We are fully technology enabled and prepared, however, there will be some changes to our usual Domestic Building Insurance (DBI) services for builders and home owners:

  • VMIA reception is operating remotely from 8.30am - 5.30pm weekdays. Contact us by phone on 1300 363 424.
  • Face-to-face meetings have been replaced with virtual meetings, phone calls and teleconferences.
  • Builders seeking changes to their current DBI arrangements may experience delays with regard to amendments to certificates of insurance, cancellations and new eligibility assessments.
  • For home owners, the assessment of claims will be particularly impacted as we are reliant on external technical specialists to inspect homes and we are aware that in some circumstances delays may be experienced due to alternate working arrangements being deployed. We request the patience and understanding of home owners during this time.
  • Our DBI team will respond to email and phone enquiries as quickly as possible. If you require urgent repair works, please refer to the emergency works procedure [PDF, 518KB].
  • Mail will be redirected, so will be received as usual.
