COVID-19 Update

Changes to our services for builders and home owners

A message to our clients and stakeholders

In light of the evolving COVID-19 situation – and following advice from Victoria's Chief Health Officer that working from home is preferable – VMIA is encouraging staff to work remotely.

Our business remains open. We are fully technology enabled and prepared, however, there will be some changes to our usual Domestic Building Insurance (DBI) services for builders and home owners:

  • VMIA reception is operating remotely from 8.30am Wednesday 18 March. Contact us by phone on 1300 363 424.
  • Face-to-face meetings will be replaced with virtual meetings, phone calls and teleconferences.
  • Builders seeking changes to their current DBI arrangements may experience delays with regard to amendments to certificates of insurance, cancellations and new eligibility assessments.
  • For home owners, the assessment of claims will be particularly impacted as we are reliant on external technical specialists to inspect homes and we are aware that in some circumstances delays may be experienced due to alternate working arrangements being deployed. We request the patience and understanding of home owners during this time.
  • Our DBI team will respond to email and phone enquiries as quickly as possible. If you require urgent repair works, please refer to the emergency works procedure [PDF, 518KB].
  • Hard copy mail will be redirected, so will be received as usual.
