As we continue to work through the many claims from Porter Davis Homes customers for incomplete and/or defective building works, we thought it would be helpful to explain to you the process when it comes to VMIA assessing your claim, receiving quotes, and nominating a builder to complete the works.
In simple terms, the following steps must occur before VMIA can approve a quote provided to us from any builder (whether chosen by you, or us):
- We have completed an inspection of the site
- We have written to you accepting your claim (Liability Decision)
- We have reviewed builder quotes provided
- We have issued a letter to you setting out how much we have assessed your claim to be worth, and nominated a builder to carry out the rectification work (Quantum Decision)
- You have accepted our assessment by signing and returning the Release and Authority. This is the catalyst for us to pay the nominated builder to complete and/or rectify the building works at your site.
If one or more of the above steps have not been completed, VMIA has not accepted a quote from a builder.
