Understanding the process of accepting builder quotes and beginning the rectification works

29 May 2023

As we continue to work through the many claims from Porter Davis Homes customers for incomplete and/or defective building works, we thought it would be helpful to explain to you the process when it comes to VMIA assessing your claim, receiving quotes, and nominating a builder to complete the works.

In simple terms, the following steps must occur before VMIA can approve a quote provided to us from any builder (whether chosen by you, or us):

  1. We have completed an inspection of the site
  2. We have written to you accepting your claim (Liability Decision)
  3. We have reviewed builder quotes provided
  4. We have issued a letter to you setting out how much we have assessed your claim to be worth, and nominated a builder to carry out the rectification work (Quantum Decision)
  5. You have accepted our assessment by signing and returning the Release and Authority. This is the catalyst for us to pay the nominated builder to complete and/or rectify the building works at your site.

If one or more of the above steps have not been completed, VMIA has not accepted a quote from a builder.

We know this is a really difficult time for Porter Davis customers, and we hope this information is helpful. We’d like to take the opportunity to thank you for your ongoing patience as we do our best to process the large number of claims we have received as quickly as possible.
